| Main | Live music, anyone? »

There are so many things I enjoy here in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. Having grown up here, lived in other parts of the country and returned here I have new appreciation for this unique part of the world. Probably the most appealing to me is the raw nature that survives in and around the cabins and big attractions in town. I never have to go far to find a spot to sit quietly by the river and just listen to the rushing water.  Off many of the area roads you can find an out-of-the-way nature trail where you can take just a few steps and feel miles away. Very cool!

If you’ll indulge my inner “nature geek” for a minute, remember that the Smoky Mountains range is one of the oldest on the continent. A lot of folks don’t realize that before that the area was at the bottom of a huge ocean! If you take a minute to look at the rock faces as you drive around a curve, sometimes you can see the layers of rock and sandstone that used to be an ocean floor. There are countless plants and animals here that are found nowhere else in the world. Tennessee has almost 300 species of fish alone – more than all of Europe!  Ok, ok ... enough already. The point is that there’s enough to explore around here to last a lifetime of searching – and I’m going to try.

Enjoy your stay and look around!

We chose this cabin based on what we saw on the web site, mainly for its view. We were not disappointed there. However, Sunset Cottages could make some improvements. First, the directions to the cabin were written by someone who already knew where they were going. We had difficulty finding it and after calling the office twice, we were told there is no sign to the cabin or the driveway to the cabin and they had to lead us in. The cabin is pretty however there are no clothes closets. Be prepared to drape your clothes that are on hangers over the furniture. There is little furniture in the living room. If someone wants to stretch out on the sofa, anyone else will have to sit on the floor or on a bar stool. There is no traditional dining table. There is a bistro like table that is very high from the floor with tall bar stools. The sofa is very soft and when you sit in it, you sink and slide down towards the middle and you have to crawl out. The bed in the master bedroom has a soft and mishapened mattress that was so bad that we got no sleep and left with sore backs. We both like a soft mattress but this bed was awful. Any one of these things may not seem like much but when you are planning an extended stay, they make a difference.

I just love the smoky mountains and the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. The people are so nice and combined with the natural beauty and all the attractions makes it one of my favorite places around....just thought I would let you all know.

Thanks,

My comment to Jim's favorite things to do is that there is never enough time to do them all. The shows and entertainment, from Dollywood and Dixie Stampede (hey we get great discount tickets when we book a Sunset Cottage) to great outdoor activities to the free music we heard at the Old Mill square. Pigeon Forge really is a great place for family... grandparents, parents and kiddos. There is fun for everyone there. We even ate great pancakes at 2:30 in the afternoon and loved it!

We searched and searched for cabins prior to choosing sunset. The staff was beyond helpful and gave us very clear direstins. We stayed in the Camelot cabin. I highly recommend this cabin. It has a wonderful layout, a pretty view, and all kinds of different personality. I am so glad we chose sunset for our stay. We are definitely going to be return customers. You can not find anywhere else that is going to offer you the best customer service and discount for such wonderful properties!
